Education
My educational background covers many areas of the humanities and arts, focusing on history and political science. The core skills of these disciplines are research, writing, editing, and critical thinking. When tutoring I have always focused on building these skills in the context of teaching any particular subject. I have a masters from Uppsala University, Sweden, in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. This program was interdisciplinary, with courses in history, political science, psychology, sociology, pedagogy and others. My thesis was a political science paper on the subject of violence in Latin America. Before this I completed a graduate diploma in conflict resolution at the University of Queensland (UQ), where I received the deans commendation for high grades. My Bachelor degree, also at UQ, was in history.
Experience
I worked for Tall Poppy Tutors for several years in Brisbane while completing my education there, where I tutored high school students in history. It was an incredibly rewarding experience, and I am eager start tutoring again. This experience, as well as the subject matter of my education, means that I am particularly aware of the importance of empathy when tutoring, and the role of respect and trust in this task.
